Scotland, Shetland & Skye

Dates: September 13 -September 27 2025

Hold on to your Fair Isle hats!

This Textile Tour to Scotland is going to be a fantastic adventure. Janine and I just couldn’t keep it short, so we will be larking about Scotland for nearly two weeks, while we nine islands.

Where are we going? We’ll start and end our trip in Edinburgh, with time to wander and shop. Then it’s off to spend four nights on Shetland and explore some of the surrounding islands. Our Shetland itinerary has been chosen by Janine, expert on all things Shetland after leading nine knitting tours there over the years

After Shetland we’re heading the Isle of Skye for three days to soak up the wild landscapes and visit with local craftspeople including Skye Weavers and Shilasdair Yarns.

We have knitting classes planned all along the trip with Di Gilpin, Elizabeth Johnston, and Janette Budge, plus a Dorset button-making class with TJ Frog.

Are you a fleece fancier? We’ll get to meet with the expert on Shetland fleece, Oliver Henry at Jamieson and Smith, visit Garth’s Croft a farm raising native breeds of sheep, and stop in at the Island at the Edge on the Isle of Skye where they breed rare black Cheviot and North Ronaldsay sheep.

We’ll visit castles, farms, artists’ studios, yarn shops, Dovecot Studios, indulge in an epic Afternoon Tea in Edinburgh, and have plenty of time to shop and soak up Scotland.

What’s this about nine islands? By the end of this trip, we’ll have visited nine Scottish island, mainland Scotland, mainland Shetland, Bressay, St. Ninian’s, Unst, Yell, Burra, East Burra, and the Isle of Skye.

Maybe we need a Scotland Bingo card?

Due to the cost of lodging on the Isle of Skye we are offering a Flexible Single Supplement, with shared rooming only for the Skye portion of the trip.
